readymade magazine - the green issue

This month's issue of ReadyMade is the green issue and they are offering a free digital copy to everyone! I've just skimmed the issue, but it looks pretty good. What I especially love is this home built out of shipping containers. For years, my husband and I have talked about using shipping containers in building a dream home and here it is looking pretty sweet!

Also, today is Earth Hour, so remember to turn off and unplug everything for 1 hour between 8 and 9 pm tonight!

wally's bites the dust

Vancouver is quickly losing it's history in the rush to build up a condo or two (thousand) and this weekend marks the end of Wally's Burgers, a local burger joint. Read my write up on the Food Network Canada blog, Bazaar.

In other news, this morning's crazy snowfall is over. I know, crazy in the coconut! The snow did not stick but I'm not taking any chances with the weather. So I'm putting on my tweed skirt and heavy woolen knee highs (it might be the last time I can wear them until next fall) and heading to the store for much needed groceries. With all this weather brouhaha, I'm thinking I need to bake cake. Cake!

mixed up march

People in Vancouver like to gloat about the weather. It's just something we do to feel better about ourselves since the cost of living in this godforsaken (aka beautiful) city is so freakin' high. Well, I can't gloat about the weather today because today it is snowing! Snowing in March!!

Thankfully, I can block out nature's eyesore with the new curtains I sewed for our office this weekend. I love the Ikea print and it looks so lovely in here with our light blue walls. Pretty, pretty!

italian rawk

I never bring my camera to rock shows, but last night I popped it into my bag as I headed out the door to see a garage rock band from Sardinia, Italy: The Rippers. They sound like a cross between The Stooges and some ol' sixties garage rock and it made a fine, fine mix. I even made a video but the sound quality is pretty crap, but maybe with some tweaking it could land up on YouTube (uh, maybe not - there's way better videos already posted from the same show). The Rippers are currently touring the West Coast, so check them out!

Thanks very much to Liv Moe who alerted me to this fine band!

Last year (to the day, in fact), I wrote about receiving my copy of Nicholas Felton's personal annual report for 2006. A couple weeks ago I received a copy for this year as well. Again, it's pretty amazing stuff filled with pie charts, graphs, maps and lovely typography. Get yours here.

Some annual facts for 2007 include:
Average Taxi Fare: $9.35
Percentage of Photos posted to Flickr: 3%
Tennis Rackets Purchased: 1
Tennis Matches Played: None
Worst Beverage: Yak Milk Tea

more new cards for the shop

This has been a nice spring weekend with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures. Unfortunately, I've spent most of it indoors organizing for tax time and generally trying to tidy up the place. Booooorrring! I know, I'll post something interesting soon...but now for a little self-promotion! 3 more new cards at the ol' etsy shop, wheeee!

in like a lion

Thank goodness it is March! Somehow February seems so dreary...despite the fact that the last half of it seemed darn right bright and springy this year. Let's hope March can keep up the pace tho so far it's not looking good with the cooler temperatures and grey skies. If you look to your right, you will notice that I've posted some pretty fantastic songs for my March playlist.

This week I'll be leaving Vancouver for a short jaunt to attend my brother's wedding. My mom wanted me to wear my own wedding dress (which isn't a traditional wedding dress in the least) since my dad never came to my wedding and my mom thought it would be nice to show it to him. I'm thinking that would be tacky and kind of showy so I'm just going to wear a really pretty skirt I bought in Berlin and a nice cardigan instead.
