small homes
I like this mini home that I found via Poppytalk. At first glance I thought they had used old shipping containers to build the home, which is a material Cornelius and I have talked about using for our future home building adventures. Very cool.
And speaking of homes, our place is slowly taking shape. This weekend I finally hung up some artwork in our hallway and this weekend I plan on painting our office space.

Yes, a topic I'm passionate (and opinionated) about!
Interesting concept - mini homes. Cool idea! I think modular homes is the wave of the future. I'm assuming you would have to find a plot of land to build you mini home onto and it would probably have to be in a rural location?
We've been exploring home ownership for a few years now. Our urban home options are condos (no thanks) or a fixer upper home that requires an additional 15 - 20 grand on renos and upgrades (hmmm, nope).
Of course, many recent home owners I know, have relied on the "Bank on Mom and Dad" for monetary assistance and/or for co-signing the mortgage lease (not an option for me).
Anyway, my point is there are many innovative options to being a homeowner that don't include the usual conventions we keep seeing in the city.
yes, joanne, that's why i'm pretty happy (so far!) in our co-op. i really love the thought of living co-operatively and we are definitely thinking of bringing those principles into play when we buy land. and yes, we are thinking of moving away out of the city....about 8 hours away!
We're thinking Guelph - or just outside of it. Might go there this weekend to have a look at some places.
DWELL magazine (which I'm a fan of) often has some interesting articles on alternative homes and living arrangements. It's great for inspiration and ideas.
I came across this article on-line and thought I'd share it with you:
