like a muther fruckin' bee

It's busy here and I wish I could be as positive in my work life as this card is. My design work has been pretty much non-stop and I'm trying to plan a trip to visit my mom since she's been in palliative care since mid-December. I haven't added anything new to my etsy shop since early December which means I've been sitting on some Valentine's Day cut-out cards and will have to continue to sit on them until 2010. Oh well, at least this card flies out of the shop a few times a day this season.

I did however find the time to dye my hair and pick up some new glasses. Having new glasses makes me feel pretty awesome. Maybe 2009 will be the year I rely less on contact lenses and let my four eyes take centre stage. Total nerd alert.

Jelle

This is what I should be doing more of....moving around and jumping and trying to dance.

I'm also super busy work-wise and have no time to spend blogging or doing anything other than work. Not that I'm complaining. Not one bit. At least I love what I do, right? That is a way good thing.

vote for me

I woke up this morning to some good news in my email. I was nominated for a 2009 Weblog Award for Best Canadian Blog for my other blog, Everybody Likes Sandwiches! Holy Smokers!! I was pretty excited and I'm not above begging...please, please, please vote for me. I really want to win.

Nina Simone - Ain't Got No...I've Got Life

I can't help but love this song! This live version is incredible.

It's kind of lame to be posting YouTube videos, but sometimes that's just how it is. Plus, you can check out the sidebar for some of my top songs of 2008! "Amazing (ft. Young Jeezy)" by Kanye West really is one of my favorite songs, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so "Heartless" is a mere shadow of a replacement.

Desmond Dekker - The Israelites (live)

I love this song but have never seen this totally disco-fied version. Swing it!

boots! boots! boots!!!!

This afternoon when I came home I was greeted with this:

Oh my!! The largest box of boots ever! I was pretty excited and giggled like a madwoman as I tore open the box to try on my boots. Sure, most of the snow has melted by now and those Sorels probably won't get used until next winter (unless it's snowy when I go back to Ontario in a few weeks), but they feel great. Warm, waterproof and total shit-kickers. The Tretorns are perfect for the weather and super comfortable, so I'll wear them everywhere. They even have tiny reflectors around the top, so they're great for night bike rides. All in all, I'm super excited about my online purchase from Zappo's Canada. I've just got to make sure this online shopping doesn't become a habit!

victoria-bound

In less than an hour we'll be heading towards the very pretty city, Victoria on Vancouver Island. I'm pretty excited for this mini vacation and plan to do lots of walking, playing games in pubs and eating some very delicious foods. I'll see you when I return!

the exiles

Last night we trudged through the wet snow to see The Exiles, a great lost film from 1961. It documents the lives of a group of natives in Los Angeles. Sadly, the LA of the film is all gone yet the plight of the natives remains the very same.

Tonight is the last night to catch it in Vancouver. See it if you can. At the very least, watch the trailer.

I'm feeling very run down today and I'm hesitatant to call myself sick. All that wet snow reduced my boots to mush and my feet were swimming in ice water for the entire walk home. Busses were not running and all the cabs were busy. I can't wait to get my new boots in the mail. They can't come fast enough!

happy rad 2009!

Today is the husband's birthday. I got him this rad tee from Tiny Showcase. The artwork was done by Ray Fenwick, who is one of my favorite illustrators (from the what-must-be-an-amazing-city, Halifax).
