crafty around town

I'm pretty excited about these Got Craft postcards (front & back). I designed them for the upcoming holiday market on December 6th and I think they turned out really well. I can't wait until I see the matching posters around telephone poles across Vancouver! And of course, I've got a table at Got Craft so that I can sell my cards & calendars which is always super fun.

And speaking of Vancouver craft fairs, I'll also be at the Western Front benefit Toque this weekend: Friday Nov. 27th and Saturday Nov. 28th. There will be a ton of great local artists and it's always for a very good cause.

design props

Oh boy, it's nice to be recognized for the work that I do! I was super stoked to see my email newsletter for the Beautiful Project showcased on the Campaign Monitor email gallery.
" This design does all the right things. From the clear permission reminder at the top, something you know we love to see, to the sassy tone of the writing. There is a nice balance of images to text but what grabbed our attention this time was the creative cropping of the images, which immediately piques the interest to what the rest of the product looks like, but the email also works fine with the images off. Overall a nice, clean, fun design. "
I designed, coded and wrote the whole thing so it's nice to get a shout out for my email design skills and my "sassy" tone. Hooray!

printables!

Yup, I've gone and opened up another etsy shop. Introducing The Small Joys on etsy! I'm still selling stationery...but with a twist: printable letterhead, notes, gift tags and envelopes. Purchase it, print it, cut it and use it! So far I've got one design, this Eames Chair Set. But there will be more designs coming soon.

It's funny because when I first was deciding to open up an etsy shop in 2005, Cornelius said that I should sell PDF stationery. I said no, who would buy pdfs? Uhhh, apparently lots of people! It's a big trend right now so I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I guess it pays to listen to the husband from time to time.

just lovely

Work is killing me. Yesterday I actually thought I was at a real job. I had meetings, phone calls, and lots of emails to answer and general busy-ness! I was even showered and dressed by 8am. Truly a work-o-holic day for me.

But the real reason for this post is to show you my 2 lovely additions to our living room. I had purchased the conifers poster in January from lovelydesign (we've actually had a bit of back and forth for a little while and it turns out we not only share some of the same friends, but we were both named "Canada's Top Young Creatives" by the CBC eons ago). Because I'm a bit of a doorknob sometimes, I didn't even open my package. Instead I waited until I made a trip to Ikea on Wednesday where I purchased 2 frames. One for the pinecone poster and the other for the leaves poster that I had purchased Monday. Turns out, Sharilyn had included the leaves poster as a gift way back in Januray! So I emailed her to thank her, apologize for not emailing her sooner and she even canceled my sale from Monday. She is that awesome. So I encourage you to purchase both posters because they are stunning, hand-pulled silkscreens and look really, really lovely.

etsy seller: PataPri

I don't need new kitchen towels or a new table cloth for my kitchen, but if I did, I'd certainly shop at this etsy sellers shop. Total eye candy! I love all the prints, especially this dancing elephants kitchen towel, this fantastic mushroom kitchen towel and the pear table cloth! Perfect to give as gifts!

personal annual report

Yesterday I received the best mail. Not only was the envelope a stunning work of typography and design, but the contents were amazing.

In January, I had come across a website that mentioned that there was a designer in New York City who would mail out his personal annual report to anyone who asked. I was intrigued and since I love getting mail, I emailed Nicholas Felton if he would be so kind to mail me his report. And yesterday, this beautifully designed booklet of Nicholas' facts from 2006 was set out before me in black, white and yellow. Facts like:
Days on Jury Duty: 5
Plants Killed: 4
Best New Artist: Battles
Airports Visited: 8
Digital VS Analog Photographs: 37:1
Swimming Adventures: 2
Best Movie: The New World
I love it. And it's now available for perusal online.

home sweet home

I love Alyson Fox's artwork & illustrations. But I think I love her house almost as much. Via Design*Sponge.
