summer list

After reading Orangette, and feeling for our lack of summer, I decided that I needed to do a summer list as well. Here's a few things that I'd love to check off my list this summer. Here's hoping!

Ferry rides.

Bike touring.

Camping.

Picnics!

Tank tops & lazy evenings on the balcony.

Long hikes.

Gelato cones.

Berry picking.

Nighttime art shows in the park.

Croquet!

Garage sale finds.

Being barefoot in the grass.

'nuff niceness

It's been a busy week so far, but the weather has continued to be lovely! The photo above was taken last week in Deep Cove, just outside of Vancouver. Shortly I'm heading out to check out the new Wednesday farmer's market located on Main Street by the train station. So exciting to have a weekday market so close to home. A short walk or bike ride away. Niceness!

And speaking of niceness, I have a new printable art print in the shop. The saying comes from a very old-timey song that Cornelius has on mp3 from a collection of old 78's. I made it ages ago but only listed it today. Check it out & try to be a little bit nicer, y'hear?

And how about some more nice? I have to mention this new facial scrub I'm using. I found it at a new tiny drug store and bought it because I just felt I needed a bit of exfoliation for summer. So far so good! I really like it and it's really quite cheap too. Now I just need a really good facial cleanser....something good for oily skin. I know, I'm old and I still have oily skin. Whatever. All I want is a good cleanser that doesn't smell like old people. Yes, I'm looking at you, Cetaphil!

It's been so hot here for the past week, that it's hard to concentrate on work and the computer. Luckily our apartment faces west so that it only starts to heat up in here in the evening , leaving us to work relative comfort for most of the day. But taking a break for a slushie is also a nice treat!

Earlier this week I was featured on the Got Craft blog! There's an interview and everything, so please go and check it out. And speaking of Got Craft, I'll be at the Got Craft Bite-Sized fair happening on June 14th at Little Mountain Gallery. It will be the first of their small, every second Sunday of the month craft fairs, so we'll see how it goes! It will be a very busy weekend in Vancouver what with the car-free festival happening, so I hope there will be a lot of foot traffic along Main Street.

hello long weekend!

In just couple of hours, I'll be putting down my tablet pen and will put my computer to sleep and will greet the start of the long weekend! I'll be meeting some friends downstairs and then we'll be biking towards some fancy mixed beverages on a (hopefully) not too rainy patio.

Hello, long weekend, you are greatly appreciated. Oh, and to get you through this last month of summer, my August playlist has been updated. Just look to your right for some sweet songs. The veviter one is my favorite (it's a Michael Hurley cover).

jinxed!

I knew it. I'd blather on about how awesome summer is and now I've been jinxed. This morning I woke up to the sound of rain (more pleasing than the car alarm that rang out for 35 minutes). So grey skies and rain clouds are back in the 'couv. At least I had a pretty awesome hike this past Saturday. I am horribly out of shape but it was fun and it's a reminder to get out more.

i ♥ summer

I don't want to jinx anything, but this summer really is the best summer in a long time. Hot, sunny and not even the threat of rain. Thank you, summer for being awesome.

back from vacation & still on holiday.

Our 10 day roadtrip through Washington and Oregon was pretty awesome. The natural beauty of it all was stunning as you can see from the photos above. So much driving though. I never realized just how much driving we could do between towns. At least we had our 2 ipods loaded and the scenery was pretty.

We got back into Vancouver ready for the holiday long weekend and the 30+ degree weather. So hot and summery! I loved it. On Saturday, we went out for breakfast and then over to Jericho Beach where we sat on a log and got in some sunshine. Yesterday was filled with gardening, patio meals and because we had a borrowed pick-up truck, we even went to a drive-in movie! Speed Racer was totally spazzy and colourful and awesome. I loved it. Perfect drive-in fare.

sockettes

I love wearing mary janes but I hate wearing socks with them in the summertime. For years, my summer footwear has always benefited from those old-lady style footie socks. They're usually a gross "nude" colour and sometimes have an uncomfortable seam running on the underside. Once I stocked up on some hot pink Banana Republic ones because I figured I didn't mind if a bit of fushia showed up alongside my shoes. But now I've discovered some awesome footie socks that don't show up under my mary janes or whatever girlie shoe I've got one. They're by Secret and they are "Ultra Low Cut" Kushyfoots and man, they aren't doing the peekshow thing on my feet. I got them at the drugstore so they are probably easy enough to find. I love them!! Yay, kushyfoot!

nice to meet you, summer

I almost can't believe it...summer is finally here! It's been a strange spring (meaning long winter) and the West Coast truely lived up to its name. But enough of that, I'm all about enjoying the sunshine! Picnics, barbeques and bike rides 4eva.

A few days ago, I posted my new summer soundtrack (look to your right). Enjoy!

And check out my tomato plant! Not only does it live...but it bears fruit.

summertime stride

Vancouver seems to have finally hit its summer stride. The past week has been hot and sunny and oh so perfect! There are no complaints here. This week there were beers on the balcony, hamburgers on the beach and bike rides around the city. This weekend has lots of possibilities too: midnight bike rides en masse with the EMB crew, gardening, walks for a scoop of gelato...so many options! I also have a lot of work that needs to get done, but it's easy to stay away from the computer when the sun is out.

Enjoy your weekend. And check out this little bit of bike porn: Vanilla Cycles out of Portland, OR. I could never afford their bikes, but every photo is completely drool-worthy.

Looking for some summer tunes to help you through the hot times? Check out the new monthly playlist to your right. HOTT!
